Week 20

How are you using media technologies in the construction stage of ancillary product 2?

Photoshop and InDesign were the two main softwares used the create the Ancillary Task 2 poster. Photoshop was used the readjust the photos taken on my digitial camera (transfered by a USB wire) and adjusted by using the brightness and contrast, using the magnetic tool to crop around the image and get rid of the background, and I also used Photoshop to use special effects by using the brush tool for sparks and bling designs.

InDesign was used to actually create the poster allowing me to lay out the poster how I desired and organise those layouts with layout labels.

In what ways will your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Looking at current media product designs such as Anuvahood, I was able to distinguish the colours and how they were cleverly selected and organised depending on the layout and position of each element. For example, the background was one primary colour which means the font and buildings on top of it should be the oppositional colour e.g. yellow and black.

Using the same technique of colour usage I was able to make my poster stand out and shine.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

The more my poster was coming well together, the more my audience liked it and considered that I should make all character photos the same / similar contrast to make it seem as though the photos of them had been taken of them all together. This was difficult as each picture of the characters were taken with a different  camera, at different daylight and different compositions (however they were similar).

I went back to the photos saved on Photoshop and tried to readjust them to follow my target audiences advice, it made my main poster look a lot more professional and like a real media product.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Now that my characters from the main product and actor from the ancillary task had been added onto the ancillary task 2, it was easier for the target audience to identify who the characters are. In regards to the purpose of the task being advertised, if the icons faces are constantly repeated on all covers, the target audience will become familiar and once looking at the actors, house style, font, colours etc. will rapidly think "SWOP".

Week 19

How are you using media technologies in the construction stage of ancillary product 2?

Using google to surf the internet when wanting to look back at existing media codes and conventions helped me to pick out certain elements that I wanted to encorporate into my own magazine.

In what ways will your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

By surfing on the internet the existing magazines and posters that were made by real media productions, I managed to encorporate codes and conventions such as the use of colours, style, fonts, picture compositions, use  of lanaguage and use of editing to come up with a final result similar to the media products I liked and focused on the most.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

After showing my audience my up and coming ancillary task 2 they insisted I keep the colours consistent through out my poster, they also liked the way the title was centred in the middle of the poster with the yellow colour in the centre which faded into a gradual red presenting the centred title bright. They thought this was good as it grabbed the audience and drew them in to the poster even more. However they thought I should be careful with the colours I used on the text positioned around the poster as it couldn't clash nor blend in with the background colours so I chose oppositional colours such as black and dark colours to make the font more suitable, able to read and easier on the eye as if the poster contained too many primary colours it could look too full of detail and unprofessional.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The house style, fonts colours, mise-en-scene was all replicated in both ancillary task 1 and the main product. The more consistent I made the house style / codes and conventions, the more professional the final outcomes will look when put together and compared with each other.
